Star Wars Fans Already Lining Up for The Force Awakens, Some Almost Two Weeks Early
I hope it's single file to hide their numbers.
With the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens just a bit over a week away, you’d probably (or maybe not) be surprised to hear that people are already lining up for the movie’s opening. If so, you’d be even more surprised to hear that they started days ago.
That’s the case outside the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA, where Liningup.net has organized a line that began on December 5—12 days before the movie’s opening. The organization also set up early lines for the prequel films (yes, all of them, despite how the first two went), and this year, they’ve taken the event to a very important location: the original Star Wars made its debut at the same theater in 1977.
It’s not just about being first to see the new Star Wars, though that certainly plays a part. Liningup.net has purchased 576 tickets for the screening, and anyone who stays in line for more than 24 hours will be allowed to buy one of those tickets. To encourage people to last as long as they can stand sleeping on a sidewalk, fans who log more line-time will get to choose their seats earlier. All that effort will also benefit charity, though, as Liningup has partnered with the Starlight Children’s Foundation for a fund drive in conjunction with the event.
The line has already attracted theater-goers, including Caroline Ritter, who flew to California from Australia to line up. “I am a hiker, so I had all of the gear, but the chance to sleep out on the ground in front of the TCL theater, you do not get that very often,” she told The Hollywood Reporter after already topping an impressive 70 hours in line. That is to say, if you’re thinking about getting in line, you’d better bring your A-game; the fandom is strong with this one.
