Freddie Prinze Jr., David Oyelowo In Talks to Join the Cast of Star Wars… Rebels
May The Force Be With You
You know. The other new Star Wars.
A week or so ago the rumor hit that Michael B. Jordan and The Butler star David Oyelowo might be joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. I assumed it was bullpucky because… well, because at this point I assume all Star Wars casting rumors are bullpucky.
It turns out there was some truth to the rumor, only the source had the wrong Star Wars. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Oyelowo and Freddie Prinze Jr. are “in the process of being cast” in Star Wars Rebels, a new animated show set to debut on Disney XD next fall. It’s the show that’s effectively replacing Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was left out in the cold by the Disney/Lucasfilm purchase.
One of its executive producers is Dave Filoni, who was The Clone Wars‘ supervising director, so hopefully it’ll have the same quality as its dear departed predecessor. Other cast members said to be in negotiations are Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray, and Steven Jay Blume, all best known for voice acting. (Marshall’s played Black Canary, Black Widow, and Wonder Woman in various cartoons.)
Star Wars Rebels is set between the original and prequel trilogies, “in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.” As of yet we don’t know who anyone will play or even which already-established characters we’ll be seeing. *coughRogueSquadroncough*
Now can Michael B. Jordan actually be cast in Episode VII? That’d be cool.
