Star Wars: Underworld, The Live-Action TV Show, Is In Fact Not About Vampires & Werewolves
TK-421 Why Aren't You At Your Post?
You know that live-action Star Wars television show George Lucas has been talking about FOREVER? It’s finally got a working title – Star Wars: Underworld. Yeah, we don’t really get it either. Hit the jump for some more info recently revealed about the project.
Producer Rick McCallum chatted with IGN about the long-teased series which apparently has 50 hours of already scripted and is simply waiting for the money to make it look visually on-par with Lucas’ other films. “It’s underneath what’s going on,” he reiterated about the series’ focus, “It’s the criminals and guys, the gangs. The guys who are running like Wall Street, you know, basically running the United States.”
He went on to say that the cost of the Star Wars films are almost nothing in Hollywood terms but that replicating that for an episodic series is a bit tougher. “We’re trying to do in one hour, the same amount of effects and technology that a two hour film has to do and we have to do it every week,” he said. “But we’ll get there and I hope I live long enough.” He said their mark would be to make each episode for $5 million.
And about the already filmed episodes being years old by the time they see the light of day McCallum said, “They’re timeless because they take place between Episode III and Episode IV. That 20 year period when Luke is growing up. It’s not about Luke, but it’s about that period when the Empire is trying to take things [over].”
“We have 50 of the most unbelievable scripts,” he said, “Each one hour episode is bigger than any of the prequels were and they’re complex, they’re dark, they’re adult. But right now, with the technology, there’s no way we can do them.”
LucasFilm is currently busy with the premiere of Red Tails, an action drama about the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American U.S. service members from World War II. You can watch the entire interview with McCallum at IGN.
