Behold! Star Wars: Episode VII Has a Release Date
I'm so excited! I'm so scared!
Good news, nerds! Or bad news, depending on how cynical you are. Star Wars: Episode VII has a release date!
According to all the official Star Wars social media pages and outlets, the release date is anticipated to be December 18, 2015. So they’re going for a Christmas release rather than a summer one. Smart. Just in time to make a spillion toys for kids to buy before they’re inevitably disappointed by the actual film.
“We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture,” Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, said in a statement to StarWars.com.
Holiday “filmgoing” season? Yeah, no. You’re selling toys. And that’s fine because we’ll all totally buy them. We’re chumps like that.
As you’ll remember, Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Abrams and Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan. Hooray for Lawrence Kasdan!

- Seriously, we love Lawrence Kasdan
- Almost as much as we hate Jar Jar Binks
- If we could just get a full-length Star Wars: Derp Edition, that would be great
