Starbucks Gets Into Energy Drink Game With New Drink “Refreshers”

Recommended Videos

Not content with dominating the coffee business, and also not content with their current coffee energy drink, the Starbucks Doubleshot, Starbucks has announced that they’ll be entering the non-coffee energy drink market, with a new line of fruit flavored energy drinks, dubbed Refreshers.

Interestingly, though the drinks are fruit flavored, they’re derived from green coffee extract, but Starbucks assures that the new drinks do not taste or even look like coffee. They contain real fruit juice (though full nutritional information is not yet available on the product’s website), B and C vitamins, and ginseng. So far, the product line contains three different flavors, Raspberry Pomegranate, Orange Melon, and Strawberry Lemonade.

The reason why the new drink is able to be derived from coffee but not taste like it is because Starbucks uses green coffee extract, which is taken from the coffee bean before it is roasted into its darker, more common appearance. Starbucks is ripping all of the energy-giving properties of the coffee bean out of the bean before it is roasted, which is how it eludes the normal coffee taste.

If you want to try out one of Starbucks’ Refreshers but aren’t content with paying full price for a fruit drink derived from coffee that doesn’t taste like coffee, head on over to the product page and you’ll find a button for a $1 off coupon.
