Fans Create Spot-On (But Tragically Short) Stranger Things Point-and-Click Adventure
It seems that our repeated requests for a Stranger Things game have finally been (kinda sorta) answered.
Indie game studio Infamous Quests went ahead and created a point-and-click adventure based on one of the earlier chapters of Stranger Things. It puts the player in control of Hopper as the police and the volunteer search party comb the forest looking for Will Byers. It’s more a demo than anything else, described on the itch.io page as a “one-room, point and click adventure game, done in tribute to the series.” It’ll take you a little bit to check everything out, but the conversation options and the interactions are pretty funny and sharply written. They’re well worth checking out.
As always in adventure games, make sure you click everything. And don’t forget about your inventory, which you can find by moving your cursor to the top of the screen. In chatting with the deputies, you can find references to other characters and events on the show. Mr. Clarke even makes an appearance, as you could probably guess if you had seen the show before.
Fair warning, the ending of this short adventure features a jump scare of sorts, albeit a low-res one. I mean, it’s Stranger Things, I feel like they’d be remiss in not throwing in at least one jump scare.
This really just makes me want a much longer game based on the show, even if it’s a retelling of the events in video game form. There’s a wealth of lore and background to be explored within the setting of the show, and I think that a retro-themed video game would be the perfect complement to a show that’s already made gaming a core part of its identity. All the same, this is a fantastic tribute to a show that’s managed to hold on to everybody’s imaginations for quite some time now.
Well done, Infamous Quests.
