Meryl Streep Joins Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda in Mary Poppins Returns
Mary Poppins Returns has added another big name to their film. There aren’t too many details about the sequel so far, except that we’ll be seeing some new and old faces:
Set in Depression-era London, the story finds that magical nanny returning to assist Jane and Michael Banks, the kids from the first movie, who are now grown and dealing with a tragedy of some kind.
Streep will play Topsy Tartlet on Mary Poppins Returns, a character from the P.L. Travers novel. Topsy is Mary Poppins’ cousin who didn’t make it into the 1964 Julie Andrews’ adaptation.
Streep will be singing in the role, and the actress is no stranger to musicals. She’s previously worked with director Rob Marshall and co-star Emily Blunt, who will be playing the iconic nanny, in 2014’s Into the Woods. Also, in case you forgot, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is also on the film as a lamplighter buddy of Mary Poppins’ named Jack.
While we won’t see the film until December 25, 2018, seeing those names is making Mary Poppins Returns one my most anticipated films of 2018. What do you think about Streep joining the film?
