Japanese chip maker Rohmannounced yesterday that they had cracked the 1.5 gigabits per second wireless data transmission speed with their new 2cm long chip. The chip uses terrahertz wave transmission to achieve such incredible speeds, which utilizes the portion of the spectrum between infrared and microwave. Amazingly, these super fast transmitters may actually be cheaper to build than current models.

Perhaps more enticing is that the company believes that they can not only bring the chips to market in three to four years, but that 30 Gbps speeds are in our future.
