Supergirl Goes All-In for Season 3, But Is She Leaving Kara Danvers Behind?

Recommended Videos

Season 3 of The CW’s Supergirl is only two weeks away, and it seems like Supergirl is primed to be more heroic than ever. But, as this Season 3 trailer called “The Hero’s Journey” shows us, she might be doing so at the expense of Kara Danvers.

There are a couple of things I love about this trailer:

  • It talks about strength in vulnerability, and how good women are at being vulnerable and coming out on the other side of their pain. Bonus points that the inspiring voiceover is being delivered by Cat Grant.
  • I’m intrigued by the blonde in a long black jacket touching people but also stalking around menacingly. That’s probably, as reported by ComingSoon.net, “Yael Grobglas (Jane the Virgin, Reign) as DC character Psi, a psychic villain who uses people’s own minds against them. Psi’s agenda puts her on Supergirl’s radar, and their meeting will affect the Girl of Steel in surprising ways.” She sounds awesome.
  • Sun-drenched images with Kara and Mon-El. Do they meet again? Is there a way for them to communicate? Is it all a dream? Or is it just Psi messing with our girl? I wanna know!

But the thing that intrigues me the most is what Alex says to Kara at the end about it being Kara Danvers, not Supergirl, who has saved her more times than she can count. After the pain of letting Mon-El go, along with everything else she went through last season, it’s likely that Supergirl wants to throw herself into her heroism and ditch the “secret identity” full-time. But isn’t Kara Danvers also who she really is?

I’m so looking forward to the upcoming season of Supergirl, which premieres Monday, October 9th. Need to catch up? Check out all of my Supergirl recaps and get yourself reacquainted with the show, or you can just pick up the Blu-ray of last season, which is a worthwhile buy. Either way, there will be new recaps and discussion to look forward to!

Will you be watching Supergirl this season?
