Supergirl Picks Up Grey’s Anatomy, Selfie Stars, Plus an Arrow Producer

Star Melissa Benoit also says Supergirl is someone "everyone will root for and want in their own lives."

Two new actors have joined the CBS hour-long drama series which recently picked up Calista Flockhart and is currently on the hunt for Superman (and possibly Superbabies?).

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

The DC Comics take has enlisted Grey’s Anatomy alum Chyler Leigh and Homeland vet David Harewood for regular roles, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Additionally, The Flash and Arrow’s Andrew Kreisberg has joined the Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler drama as a writer and executive producer.

Leigh is set to play Alex Danvers, Supergirl’s foster sister, while Harewood will be playing… Hank Henshaw. That’s right, the man who may one day become Cyborg Superman. THR writes, “In the CBS take, the character is a onetime CIA agent who now runs the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), which tracks extraterrestrial threats on Earth.”

They say this about Alex Danvers, “Fascinated by Kara’s powers from a young age, Alex developed a lifelong obsession with science that inspired her to become a doctor.” Oh thank god, Lexie, I’ve missed you.

Comic Book Resources recently spoke with Supergirl herself, Melissa Benoist, at the Spirit Awards and managed to get a few quotes out of her.

“What’s so wonderful about her is that she is such a relatable character, amongst her powers,” said Benoist. “What I’m the most excited about is telling a story about a human being really realizing their potential and their strength, and I think that’s something that everyone will root for and want in their own lives – I’m really excited about that.

She went on to say she would not have believed this would be where she’d wind up if you asked a child-version of her. “I feel so privileged to be working and doing what I’ve always loved to do since I was four years old… I’m a little overwhelmed by it, to be honest.”

And finally, “It’s a little daunting,” she said of her comic counterpart’s costume which we are anxiously waiting to see…
