Supergirl and The Flash to Have a Musical Crossover Event, Answering All Our Prayers

And also, Victor Garber singing "Edelweiss!"

Apparently, the gods want to one-up Supergirl getting really excited about ice cream, Kara Danvers and Barry Allen bonding over donuts, and the cutest display of superhero camaraderie ever seen on television, and I have zero problem with that. Get ready, DC TV fans—there’s a Supergirl x The Flash crossover musical 2-parter a’brewin’!

Yes, this news gets ALL the excited Kara gifs. Executive Producer of both shows, Greg Berlanti, confirmed the news at the TCA Summer Press Tour where, according to TV Line, he said “Yes, there will be a musical crossover. There’s going to be a musical pair of episodes in the back half of the year between Supergirl and The Flash.” This really shouldn’t be a surprise, since prior to taking on their respective superhero duties, both Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin were singing and dancing their hearts out on Glee.

What’s truly bananas is just how much musical theater talent there is in the cast of all the DC shows on The CW. In addition to Benoist and Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Victor Garber, Jeremy Jordan and John Barrowman have all done musical theater. Hell, at this year’s SDCC the cast of Arrow busted out some Hamilton for our listening pleasure, singing “You’ll Be Back” pretty damn well! Which is why there are going to make sure that in addition to crossing over Supergirl and The Flash, that other characters from Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow would have the opportunity to play!

According to Comic Book Resources, Executive Producer Sarah Schechter said, “We’ve got such talented actors, 15 years from now when the last of these shows is going off the air, that would be a big regret [if we didn’t do it] – it’s too much fun not to.”

INDEED.

So, what’s with that “Edelweiss” business? The characters will mostly be singing covers of pre-existing songs, though according to io9, “the writers have been kicking around trying to write ‘at least’ one original tune for each episode.” There’s no official air date yet, but Berlanti did say that it’s scheduled for the “back half” of the season.

So, on a scale from excited to totally freaking out, HOW EXCITED ARE YOU FOR THIS?
