Man of Steel Delayed to 2013

It Came From Outer Space

Although no one is exactly sure why, Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot Man of Steel has been pushed back six months to summer 2013. As usual for production delays, it remains to be seen if this is good news or bad news for the movie itself.

There have been recent script… well, lets call them oddities, since letting other writers take passes at scripts is a fairly standard occurrence. Joss Whedon got his own pass on the Captain America script when he took on The Avengers, for example.

But it does raise questions about some of the extended consequences of the reboot. I’d assumed that the end of 2012 release date for Man of Steel had everything to do with the deadlines associated with the ongoing Superman copyright litigation(s), where DC might lose the ability to license key aspects of Superman’s origin story for use outside of comics.

At least, that’s my impression of it, the whole thing is incredibly nebulous and constantly changing.

If the movie is pushed back, Warner Bros. might be less worried about the issue than I thought.
