Ta-Nehisi Coates Talks Building T’Challa in Marvel Black Panther Video

Ta-Nehisi Coates Talks Black Panther

Recommended Videos

We probably have one of the most perfect writer/comics character pairings ever happening right now over at Marvel. Ta-Nehisi Coates writing Black Panther. Issue #1 is out now, and in this awesome video from Marvel, Coates reminds you exactly why T’Challa, aka Black Panther, is such a special character.

He talks about the importance of creating a believable foundation in Wakanda, paying close attention to being as detailed as possible in outlining the world that produces a mantle like the Black Panther (which the video reminds us is earned, not inherited), and a character like T’Challa. Coates then talks about why he’s an old-school fan of Black Panther himself. He loves that the character is one of the 10 smartest people in the Marvel Universe, and that his being a scientist and constantly searching for the truth often comes at odds with other things that are required from a king.

Are any of you reading Black Panther right now? What do you think of Coates’ take on the iconic character?
