‘Obi-Wan Kenobi:’ Who is Tera Sinube and What is His Fate?

This post contains spoilers for episode 4 of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The latest episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, “Part IV,” took a particularly dark turn this week. The new Disney Plus series finally reveals what Obi-Wan was up to all those years between the events of the prequels and the original trilogy, and one scene in the new episode confirmed the grim fate of a character whom many fans immediately recognized: Tera Sinube.
Although trailers for Obi-Wan Kenobi made it look like the Jedi Master would be spending all his time on Tatooine looking after Luke Skywalker, the series immediately took a surprising turn when the 10-year-old Leia was kidnapped and Obi-Wan was tasked with finding her. So far, his quest has taken him planet-hopping across the galaxy, rescuing Leia from her captors and trying to smuggle her back to safety only to be ambushed by none other than Darth Vader. In “Part IV,” Obi-Wan finds out that Leia has been taken to the belly of the beast: the Fortress Inquisitorius, the headquarters of the Imperial Inquisitors who are hunting down Jedi across the galaxy.
While Obi-Wan is sneaking through the Fortress, he happens upon a room containing his worst nightmare: the bodies of Jedi Knights slain by the Inquisitors and entombed in amber. These are presumably the Jedis executed during Order 66, along with the survivors hunted down by the Inquisitors over the years. So far it’s unclear why exactly the Inquisitors are saving the Jedis’ bodies, but it does make for a chilling scene.
Many of the bodies aren’t identifiable characters (although it’s possible that Obi-Wan recognizes them). However, Tera Sinube is instantly recognizable to fans of the Cartoon Network series The Clone Wars.
Who is Tera Sinube?
In Star Wars lore, Tera Sinube is a Jedi Knight from the planet Cosia and a member of the Jedi High Council. Tera is a supporting character in The Clone Wars, the 2008 CGI animated series that ran for 7 seasons and was set in the three years between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Tera’s most significant role is in season 2, episode 11, “Lightsaber Lost.” In that episode, the Padawan Ahsoka Tano loses her lightsaber to Coruscant’s criminal underworld, and Tera uses his knowledge of the streets to help her find it. Tera is known for his wisdom and experience, and one of his trademarks is his walking stick that doubles as a lightsaber.
Will Tera’s death play a significant role in Obi-Wan Kenobi going forward? It’s hard to say. It’s possible that the series will circle back to the entombed Jedi Knights if their presence in the Fortress Inquisitorius end up playing a significant role in the plot. However, it’s also possible that Tera’s body is just a macabre Easter egg for fans.
