The Beijing Winter Olympics Song Sounds a Lot Like Frozen‘s ”Let It Go”

Let it go(ld)?

Several Chinese internet users have begun to point out that the Beijing 2022 Olympic theme song sounds a whole lot like Frozen‘s famous ballad, “Let It Go.” The tinkly piano intro, the choruses’ crescendo, the instrumentation, the tempo, the wintry lyrics, the fact that both songs are in the exact same key … the similarities are undeniable, but the melodies are just different enough that it may yet evade a copyright lawsuit

The good news is that if you loved “Let It Go” and played it so many times that you got super-sick of it, now you have a new song to download that’s almost exactly the same … except it has a slightly different melody. Yay?

The video above puts both songs side-by-side for a comparison; what do you think? Is there any possibility that this songwriter didn’t realize how similar these songs sounded?
