The Best Hunger Games Gifts for Your Valentine

May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor

Gearing up for a District 12 style romance this Valentine’s Day?

So maybe your night won’t end with you and your partner cupping death berries, but that doesn’t mean your lover wouldn’t appreciate a HG-style gift.

If you’re looking for inspiration, then the new Capitol Couture site may help. The new tumblog launched last week and is designed along the lines of a faux Vogue featuring Effie Trinkett and infographics on wild Capitol manicures.

For those looking beyond the reach of President Snow, I turn you to the outer reaches of the Internet. (Side note: I would love to know if Panem had the World Wide Web.) In Panem, the districts are organized by their contributions to larger society. In honor of that idea, here are some gifts that may (loosely) represent only the most romantic of those districts. (Romanticism of districts was determined by the completely scientific method of which ones I thought of first):

  • District 1: Luxury Goods

Since District 1 is the wealthiest, besides the capitol, it’s home to some of the best in luxury goods. Perhaps that’s why there’s so much Alexander McQueen present on the Capitol Couture site?

For a more affordable luxury, check out this “May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor” silver cuff from Etsy seller, Berkey Designs. This gift, suitable for a tribute in waiting, costs $19 plus shipping.

  • District 3: Electronics

In my mind, District 3 is most likely to be connected to the Internet. What with their various devices, they’ve got to have social media, right?

Either way, eReaders were the big gift winner this holiday season. If you have a significant other who is constantly changing up their eReader case, here’s a custom solution.

M-Edge provides a service where you can design, upload and create custom eReader covers for Kindle, iPad and Nook. You can also use one of the pre-set designs or choose other users designs. The custom designs cost between $20 and $35, depending on the case.

  • District 8: Textiles

District 8 is known for its fabrics. So, why not a district inspired t-shirt for your Valentine? These shirts from Rachael Thomas on Red Bubble allow you to select a tee or hoodie for both men and women. Plus, there’s the added benefit of choosing your tee color too. Shirts start at $24.54.

  • District 11: Agriculture

District 11 is Rue’s home district. [SPOILER ALERT] Come the Midnight premiere, I’ll be blubbering at the site of Rue. Perhaps, tissues would be a good gift for this one? In honor of the food district, I recommend giving the gift of nosh. Plus, I’d have to believe that the Mellarks would approve.

There’s something romantic about eating a cupcake together. If you want to get really serious about it, here’s a tutorial on how to make a fondant Mockingjay. Once you’ve made the topper, check out these wicked Catching Fire cupcake wrappers. Total cost depends on local supplies. Wrappers cost $4.00.
