The world is more giant than you can imagine. Watch the brand new trailer for Disney’s The BFG and see the movie in theaters July 1st!

Today, Steven Spielberg unveiled a brand new trailer for his film adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic book, The BFG. It dives much deeper into the story and unveils many more characters than its earlier trailer predecessor. It’s also packed with plenty of “Spielberg faces” from both Sophie, the main character, and the movie’s titular character, The BFG. I guess those kinds of shots are hard to avoid because you’ve got a human playing in a land of giants, but oh well, why would you want to avoid those shots? As well, it’s just chock full of inspirational, uplifting music, and I have to admit, it sent more than a few chills down my spine.

This trailer’s got me pretty excited about the movie, though I’m still wary of children’s book-to-film adaptations, especially in modern filmmaking. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory left me with a bit of a, uh, sour taste in my mouth, and that’s not cause I was licking the schnozzberry wallpaper. As a kid who absolutely adored The BFG, I remain cautiously optimistic about this movie. It’s obviously going to be packed with CGI and everything, but I like that they’re not trying to make it hyper-realistic. It’s definitely got its own style, and I’m glad to see that it embraces it rather than trying to cover it up, casting the whole thing into the uncanny valley.

All that being said, I think this trailer may have been enough to get my butt into a movie theater seat come July 1st.
