Get Inspired to Create With The Doubleclicks’ Brand New Music Video for “Now Is The Time”

You’d be forgiven for thinking that maybe things are a little too heavy to be thinking about making art, but truth be told, art is more important now than it’s ever been in recent history. Art in all its forms speaks truth to power, and that’s something that The Doubleclicks understand all too well. Last time, Angela M Webber, half of the Portland, Oregon musical duo, shared her thoughts on exactly this, opening up about finding creative process and creation while working under what feels like a developing fascist regime.

To drive that point about the importance of creation home, they’re premiering a brand new music video, titled, “Now Is The Time,” based on author Kayla Cagan’s forthcoming novel, Piper Perish. You can watch the video above (you know, if you haven’t already)!

According to a release shared with The Mary Sue, the video was created after Webber interviewed Cagan about her novel. The interview was conducted as part of the Doubleclicks’ project, “You Should Write A Song About That.”

Piper Perish is a YA novel following the tale of high school senior Piper Perish and her desire to move from Houston to New York to attend art school, while her financial situation and family gets in her way. Piper Perish will come out on March 7 on Chronicle Books.

“Kayla’s book is amazing, and our conversation with her really inspired me to get creating,” said Webber. “It’s so important to make things, to learn, to make mistakes and to keep going, and that’s what this song is about!”

The video is downright lovely, and totally inspirational. Give it a watch, and if you want to hear Webber and Cagan’s interview, you can check it out over at youshouldwriteasongaboutthat.com.

Portland, Ore-based folk duo the Doubleclicks released a new song today called “Now Is The Time,” based on the forthcoming novel Piper Perish, by Kayla Cagan. The song is part of a project called “You Should Write A Song About That,” in which the band interviews a subject and then writes a song based on their conversation. In this case, Angela M Webber from the Doubleclicks interviewed Kayla Cagan about her debut novel Piper Perish and the message of the book.

Piper Perish is a YA novel following the tale of high school senior Piper Perish and her desire to move from Houston to New York to attend art school, while her financial situation and family gets in her way. Piper Perish will come out on March 7 on Chronicle Books.

The interview can be found on podcast players like iTunes and Overcast as well as at youshouldwriteasongaboutthat.com, and covers Cagan’s inspiration for the book growing up in Houston, outtakes from the novel-writing process, and Cagan (and Perish’s) obsession with
inspirational quotes.

“Kayla’s book is amazing, and our conversation with her really inspired me to get creating,” said Webber. “It’s so important to make things, to learn, to make mistakes and to keep going, and that’s what this song is about!”

“This song brings up so many of the things I think in my head on a daily basis,” said Cagan. “I want to encourage artists, makers, and creators (and myself!) – to express ourselves and make the things that we want to see in the world and that the world needs to see; to be brave enough to make the things that might scare us, or that we think we aren’t good enough, smart enough, or strong enough to tackle.”

The new song will also appear on the Doubleclicks’ forthcoming album “Love Problems.” The album is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign going on now. The project has already reached its initial $35,000 goal with over 1,000 supporters, but more goals, including the creation of more podcast episodes, are still upcoming.
