The Flash Mob: Did ‘Killer Frost’ Just Destroy a Friendship?
"Some things you break can't be put back together."
Gather around and settle in for your weekly open discussion for The CW’s The Flash. This week, we’re talking about “Killer Frost,” which saw Caitlin Snow fighting off her powers as the gang tried to figure out what’s happening with Wally. Ye be warned: if you haven’t watched last night’s episode, you might want make like an atom and split. Spoilers ahead.
Picking up where “Shade” left off, The Flash battles the self-proclaimed god, Savatar, and is nearly pummeled to death until Caitlin Snow steps in. Unfortunately, using her powers means turning into Killer Frost, which made for an entertaining (and also heartbreaking) episode. Desperate to get rid of her powers, she kidnaps Julian who recognizes her as one of Barry’s friends. Yikes.
Meanwhile, Joe West recognizes that his superpower is his gut instinct and removes Wally from that creepy cocoon. A disoriented Wally emerges with his speed intact, but his system goes haywire, and I seriously thought he was going to have permanent brain damage, because abruptly waking someone up from a coma seems like a really bad idea. What if it didn’t work, Joe?
But back to Caitlin and her biting personal insults, which also served up valid points. Was she entirely wrong about Barry screwing up everyone’s lives while walking away with his own happy ending? Still, she did tell Cisco that Barry is the reason his brother is dead and that was way harsh. By the end of the episode, Cisco doesn’t know if he can get over that Flashpoint bombshell, and I think this episode just destroyed a friendship.
On a more positive note, Kevin Smith came back to direct and brought in special guest star Greg Grunberg (who is BFF’s with J.J. Abrams and appeared in both 2009’s Star Trek as well as 2016’s Star Trek Beyond). Being the Frozen fan that he is, he left this little easter egg that you may never have noticed if he didn’t point it out.
So what did you think of the episode? Were you expecting that Alchemy reveal? Do you think Cisco can forgive Barry? Will Caitlin be able to keep her powers in check? Do we want to see Kevin Smith direct another episode? Let me know in the comments!
