You all know how I felt about the Season Two finale of The CW’s The Flash. However, I still love the show, and so I was hoping against hope that the S2 ending wasn’t leading to the most predictable of all places. So much for that. **SPOILERS IF YOU’RE NOT CAUGHT UP ON THE FLASH**
After getting permission from The Berlanti himself, Grant Gustin took to Twitter to announce the title of the upcoming Season Three opener of The Flash:
FLASHPOINT. This is not drill. https://t.co/nzq2NJh9pl

This comes as a surprise to literally no one.
While it’s kinda disappointing that these TV versions of superhero stories continue to mine the comics well rather than developing new directions and storylines for these characters that are unique to the television universe, I understand why they would want to retell the really popular stories…like the Flashpoint event. And if any show is capable of finding a way to reinvent a pre-existing story so that it’s unique to television, it’s The Flash. Actually, it’s all the Berlanti Productions DC TV shows. They excel at making the old new and exciting again so as to appeal to new fans while giving comics readers something to be excited about.
And if you look at the replies to Gustin’s tweet, the fans are totally excited.
The Flash, Season Three premieres on October 4th, which gives you plenty of time to brush up on Flashpoint in the comics.
