Three Book Characters Won’t Be In Catching Fire, But Katniss and Peeta in These Snazzy Clothes Will
May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor
Since our first official look at The Hunger Games: Catching Fire came out yesterday we’ve had several tidbits about the film cross our path, among them a pair of new pictures and confirmation from director Francis Lawrence of three characters who didn’t make the jump from page to screen.
So who got the axe? (Or spear, à la Rue… oh, sorry, too soon?) And what was that about new pictures? Hit the jump to find out.
Not appearing in a theater near you are Bonnie and Twill, the District 8 runaways Katniss runs into in the woods outside District 12 who tell her about the rebellion in Panem and the existence of District 13.
The third character in question is Darius, the young District 12 peacekeeper who intervened during Gale’s whipping, was made into an Avox, and served Katniss and Peeta during the Quarter Quell.
Says producer Nina Jacobson on the cuts:
“It’s as agonizing for us to lose things from the book as it is for a fan. I want every single thing in there. But you know what? If you have to give up something in order to give more time to Katniss and Gale or to Effie as she starts to feel a conscience, you make the sacrifices in order to serve the characters and themes that are more essential.”
Now that we have that agony out of the way, here are those pictures I mentioned, featuring Katniss, Peeta, Gale, and Peacekeepers who look kind of like the Engineers from Prometheus envisioned through the lens of a Daft Punk music video.
