The Last Jedi Includes a Dedication to Carrie Fisher, In Case You Thought This Movie Wouldn’t Utterly Destroy You
Note: This article contains what is technically a spoiler about the dedication at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but it’s not a plot point, and it doesn’t reveal anything about what happens with Leia. Also, honestly, no one should go into this movie without a warning for the ugly sobbing that’s going to ensue.
Now, I am not one of the lucky few who’ve already seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi, so I couldn’t confirm this on my own, but according to a write-up from Keely Flaherty at Buzzfeed News, The Last Jedi includes a touching tribute to everyone’s favorite hero-princess-doctor-general at the end of the film.
As the credits roll, the screen reportedly reads, “In loving memory of our princess, Carrie Fisher.”
Though she passed away shortly after filming, Carrie Fisher had a huge influence on the final outcome of the The Last Jedi, from the script to the space jewelry to inspiring other women in the cast. Director Rian Johnson has repeatedly cited her when asked about his plot or filmmaking decisions, and judging by the early reactions, she helped to shape one hell of a Star Wars movie. Given her outsize impact and her too-early death, it’s only fitting that they dedicated the movie to her.
But that doesn’t mean that reading this dedication won’t emotionally wreck me. Be prepared, TMSers.
