New The Martian In-Universe Trailer Recruits Neil deGrasse Tyson for Some Feelings
All of the Mass Effect feelings. ALL OF THEM.
Excuse me for a second. I’m wiping a tear from one of my eyes. Between the swelling, moving background music to the perfectly hopeful, inspiring narration, I forgot that this was a trailer for a gosh darn movie and not, you know, Mass Effect.
There’s a lot of things to talk about here. Right away: we need to talk about how Mass Effect-y this trailer is. If this background music isn’t somehow inspired by Uncharted Worlds, then I don’t even know what to say. And those visuals. Totally some Illusive Man platform action going on there, right?
But seriously: Getting Neil deGrasse Tyson as the narrator for your movie trailer? Talk about nailed it. Wonder what he’ll have to say about the movie’s science afterwards. But having him essentially do a mini-episode of Cosmos is nothing short of spectacular. The movie references are blended in incredibly well to the science and facts peppered throughout.
Like I said, right up until he introduced the ARES 3 crew, I forgot that this was a movie trailer. Maybe in a few years, we’ll be watching another season of Star Talk or Cosmos that looks suspiciously just like this trailer. We can only hope, right?
