Announcing Our New York Comic Con Panel!
Audience Participation
Are you coming to New York Comic Con? Did you know that New York is our home base? Did you know we’re planning cool stuff to do there like a panel and a meetup? It’s been a few weeks of trying to get the coolest people to be on our NYCC panel, but the dust has settled and we can finally announce when, where, and, most excitingly, who.
We’ll see you all the Saturday afternoon of the con in room 1A01. That’s Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM, for our panel called “The Mary Sue Presents Representation In Geek Media.” Here’s a brief official description:
The Mary Sue, a geek girl culture website, is looking to gather for a discussion with panelists on representation in media and how it’s personally affected us in our lives and work, and how it affects what we consume in “geek” culture. Panelists will discuss their favorite characters of color, LGBTQ characters, disabled characters, and female characters in genres where they are underrepresented. We seek to hear panelists’ point of view but also open it up to the audience for sharing their own stories and hope the panel will be a positive affirmation of the wide variety of characters we hope to see more of going forward.
And now for the panelist lineup! Jill will be serving as moderator, with myself as one of the panelists. But we are proud to announce that the rest of the panelist chairs will be filled by some very, very cool people. We’ll be joined by Jamal Igle, DC artist and creator of Molly Danger; web cartoonist Kate Leth; N.K. Jemisin, author of The Inheritance Trilogy; and veteran DC and Marvel comics artist Phil Jimenez!
We’re really looking forward to getting these folks together in one room and asking them about their favorite characters. And we’re really looking forward to seeing all of you there!
