The Mouse Returns, in New Disney Short Croissant de Triomphe

Our Adorable Past

Croissant de Triomphe on Disney Video

Disney has struggled in the past couple of decades with the fact that its most iconic characters have become not much more than that: visual iconography that says “Disney” and not much else. While Mickey and the gang are still inextricably linked with the brand, they certainly haven’t been doing much lately. Warner Bros. has been having a parallel problem with the Looney Tunes, but I can at least remember a time when classic Bugs Bunny cartoons were readily available on basic cable during my lifetime (to say nothing of Tiny Tunes or Space Jam whichwasawesomeshutup). Disney’s latest attempt to dig out of this hole? A series of shorts featuring the gang, spanning the globe. The writing on this one probably won’t surprise you, but it’s something pretty to look at. Also I’m a sucker for creative use of cognates and loan words.

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
