Screen Junkies Illustrates Why Dwayne Johnson Should Play Every Classic Disney Animated Character
Music is full of artists who cover each others’ works, and often times, they’re wonderfully done. It’s not something you see a lot in the movie industry (unless you count reboots or remakes), but thanks to this video from Screen Junkies, that may change. Here, during a press junket for Moana, Screen Junkies’ Hal Rudnick asks Dwayne Johnson to share his interpretation of some classic iconic Disney lines. The characters he “covers” here are Buzz Lightyear, Genie, and (of course) Gaston.
I say “of course” because when Rudnick asks Auli’i Cravalho which character Johnson should play in any live action Disney remake, Cravalho answers (without hesitation) Gaston. The video gets pretty NSFW, because Johnson’s interpretation of the arrogant, jerky-jerk hunter involves some solid swearing. Keep an ear out for that one.
In fact, it’s hilarious listening to Johnson defend himself and the creative liberties he takes with certain lines. “It’s my interpretation, remember,” he keeps interjecting. It’s great, and makes for an overall funnier interview.
In addition to Johnson covering the lines, Screen Junkies takes it even a step further and superimposes Johnson’s face onto the characters in each of the films. They also chat with Lin-Manuel Miranda about Disney music (and Rudnick freestyles for him), and they ask the movie’s directors about their opinion on some of Disney’s more controversial conspiracy theories.
