Every ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Series Planned (So Far!)

This universe isn't dead yet.

Maggie, Negan, & a new character in The Walking Dead: Dead City

Whether you hate it or love it, The Walking Dead is going to be milked till every last drop is collected. Like a zombie apocalypse, this one show is continuing to create new shows far and wide—we can’t control it, we can’t stop it. All we can do is run and hide. At least fans who love the TWD universe won’t be disappointed.

As of right now, there are four upcoming spinoffs, and Fear the Walking Dead was renewed for an eighth season. There will be no lack of zombies on your screen anywhere, anytime soon. And who knows if any other spinoffs will be conjured up following the series finale of The Walking Dead.

Now, let’s get to the juicy details about all those planned spinoffs!

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

(AMC)

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon release date: TBA 2023

It’s no exaggeration when I say that Daryl (Norman Reedus) is a major fan favorite. His character development is visible, and even if you’re not a big fan, that can’t be diminished. Daryl went from being ignorant and following the lead of his horrible brother (Michael Rooker) to forming a found family. This spinoff was meant to feature Daryl and Carol (Melissa McBride), but due to the series being filmed in Europe (for whatever reason), McBride had to back out for logistical reasons.

This is what Dan McDermott (AMC president) has said about the spin-off’s plot: AMC president Dan McDermott says the spin-off will “follow Daryl as he wakes up and finds himself somewhere on the European continent and tries to piece together what happened. How did he get here? How’s he going to get home?”

Confirmed The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon cast: Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Clémence Poésy as Isabelle, and Adam Nagaitis as Quinn.

The Walking Dead: Dead City (Negan and Maggie spinoff)

(AMC)

The Walking Dead: Dead City release date: June, 2023

Surprised or still confused that a six-episode spinoff involving these two is happening? That’s a valid response, I think! The spinoff will focus on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) as they travel to Manhattan, which has been cut off from the mainland. The Walking Dead has forced Maggie and Negan to work together and even form what could be considered a “civil arrangement”—even though Maggie has always vocally expressed her hate for Negan after he killed Glenn (Steven Yeun) in the season 7 premiere. Both of these characters are loved, don’t get me wrong, but a spinoff? We’ll see if it proves to be any good.

Confirmed The Walking Dead: Dead City cast: Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong, Mahina Napoleon, Željko Ivanek, Jonathan Higginbotham, Karina Ortiz as Amaia, and Caleb Reese Paul as Wesley.

Rick and Michonne spinoff

(AMC)

Rick and Michonne spin-off Release date: TBA, 2024

The departure of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Dania Gurira) left a strange energy on The Walking Dead. It was hard to imagine the series ending without them. But with the updates about this limited series (which will replace the previously planned Rick Grimes movies), fans of the pair and their relationship are excited. Hopefully, it’ll make Michonne leaving the kids to go find Rick worth it, rather than feeling so … off? Not much has been revealed about the series, but we know TWD creator Robert Kirkman will be involved and it’ll take place after the events of “What Comes Next” (season 9, episode 5) and “What We Become” (season 10, episode 13).

Spin-off that was mentioned before:

  • Tales of the Walking Dead (premiered in August 14th, 2022)
