Things We Saw Today: Disney Tried to Make “Healthy Gumbo” and the Internet Reacted Accordingly

It may have been missing one key ingredient.

When it comes to movies and theme parks, Disney reigns supreme. In the case of food, however, that might be a different story. At least, if we’re talking about gumbo recipes. The company uploaded a video showcasing a recipe for “Tiana’s Healthy Gumbo,” referencing the Disney princess based in New Orleans who also happens to be an excellent cook. So, putting her name on this recipe means it has to be good and, as BuzzFeed pointed out, the internet didn’t quite think so.

Things kicked off fine with okra and peppers, but quickly took a nose dive when they added kale and quinoa. The greatest offense, however, was leaving out roux–a key ingredient. Twitter had some words for the blunder, with user Lauren writing, “idk who’s gumbo but this ain’t Tiana’s. Maybe Cinderella’s or Snow White’s.” Disney has since taken down the video.

She’s being credited as the lead author on a new proposal sent to Unicode Consortium, the nonprofit overseeing the creation and approval of emoji.

That’s it on our end. What did you all find?
