Things We Saw Today: Queen Bey Will Be the First Woman to Headline Coachella in 10 Years

I don’t know what to be more upset about: the fact that Coachella is less about the music these days and more about getting to say you “Went to Coachella,” the fact that Beyoncé will be the first woman to headline Coachella in TEN YEARS when she performs at this year’s festival, or the fact that Beyoncé has never played at Coachella as a solo act before. But you read that right: Queen Bey will be the first woman to headline the famed dusty bathroom desert music festival since Björk headlined back in 2007. Wait, 2007 was ten years ago? *feels old* *slinks away* Oh, BTW: Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead will also be headlining. (via Women and Hollywood)

• After several delays, The Ring sequel Rings is finally being released! No, really! It has a date and a poster now! February 3rd. Seriously! (via /Film)

• The Smurfette Principle is pretty self-explanatory. One woman, surrounded by dudes in a fictional story. Check out all these movie posters. Once you see the Smurfette Principal in action in images, it’s really hard to unsee. (via Time)

And the award for Totally Missing the Point about social justice, freedom of speech, and trigger warnings goes to…

• Hero librarians attempt to save books by checking out low-popularity books under fake names to game the automated book-culling software designed to remove low-popularity books from circulation. (via Boing Boing)

• And lastly, Star Trek fan film, Axanar, is going to have to face a jury in order to determine their fate, and they won’t have a “fair use” excuse to fall back on. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
