Things We Saw Today: Maisie Williams Stars in Netflix Original Film iBoy

Today, Netflix released the trailer for an intriguing-looking sci-fi film called iBoy in which Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams stars alongside Bill Milner (X-Men: First Class). According to Deadline Hollwyood, it “follows an average teenager whose world is turned on its head when a violent encounter with local thugs leaves fragments of his shattered smartphone embedded in his brain. He wakes from a coma to discover that returning to normal teenage life is impossible because he has developed a strange set of superpowers. With these new powers he sets out to seek revenge on the gang, who also assaulted his best friend Lucy (Williams).” iBoy arrives on Netflix January 27th.

  • Amazon has just launched a new VOD service just for anime lovers called “Anime Strike,” featuring “1,000 movies and TV episodes including ‘classics, exclusives, and hard-to-find content (like new episodes from Japan’s famed late-night anime blocks)'” as part of its new Amazon Channels service. The downside? It’ll cost you an extra $4.99/month if you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber. (via Deadline Hollywood)
  • The Green Lantern Corps movie has found its writers in David Goyer and Justin Rhodes. (via The Nerdy Bird)
  • The Directors Guild of America announced the nominees for the DGA Awards, which will be held February 4th. Among the nominees is Nate Parker in the category of First-Time Director for The Birth of a Nation. It’s the first major award nod for that film. Also nominated for Best Feature Film Director are La La Land‘s Damien Chazelle, Lion‘s Garth Davis, Moonlight‘s Barry Jenkins, Manchester by the Sea‘s Kenneth Lonergan and Arrival‘s Denis Villeneuve (via The Hollywood Reporter)
  • Woody Harrelson talked about his role in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars anthology film. He says, “I’m a mentor to Han but I’m also a bit of a criminal. I don’t think I should say much more than that because the Force is not allowing me.” (via /Film)
