Things We Saw Today: Raise Your Hand If You’d Watch This Colleen Wing and Misty Knight Spinoff
Given Iron Fist‘s lackluster reviews, there’s now some question about where the series or its characters should go after Defenders. Viewers may feel differently, and we’ll see what Netflix thinks about its numbers, but critics were not enamored with Finn Jones’ Danny Rand. Jessica Henwick’s performance as Colleen Wing, however, has been praised–despite the show’s undercutting of her character. So Lauren Galloway over at CBR proposed my new favorite idea: a Daughters of the Dragon spinoff, starring Colleen Wing and Misty Knight and based on their partnership in the comics. (And when I say spinoff…like, if Iron Fist just started concentrating on these two instead, I’d be cool with that.) Take my money/entire-weekend-spent-watching already, Netflix. (via CBR)
- Bernie Wrightson, the much beloved and frightfully talented co-creator of Swamp Thing, has passed away after a battle with brain cancer. Wrightson’s comics and illustrations were astoundingly detailed and meticulously composed. Below are just a few examples of his work; comics creatives have been sharing even more on Twitter, and they’re wowing.

- Mads Mikkelsen out-Mads’d himself in a recent interview with Shortlist. From saying that Benedict Cumberbatch “had a very nice odour” to recalling his days as an arm-wrestling gymnast, he stays as on-brand absurd as ever. Asked for his favorite Rihanna song, since he appeared in her “Bitch Better Have My Money” music video, he gave the best Rihanna opinion a middle-aged Danish dude could give: “I’ve heard a few things. I think she varies a lot; she has a broad palette of different styles. But I have a soft spot for ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ because, after all, I am the bitch.” (via Pajiba)
- If watching Paul Ryan brag about how he’s dreamed of robbing poor people since his frat boy days made you want to vomit and write off half the country as irredeemably devoid of empathy, Katy Perry’s speech from the Human Rights Campaign may be the salve you need. She discussed how hanging out with kids who weren’t like her super-religious parents helped open her eyes and change her views. “My gift introduced me to people outside my bubble, and my bubble started to burst,” she said. “These people were nothing like I had been taught to fear. They were the most free, strong, kind, and inclusive people I had ever met. They stimulated my mind, and they filled my heart with joy, and they freaking danced all the while doing it…The loudest voice in the room or on your TV set isn’t always right. But that little voice inside of you pushing you to discover who you are is a trusted friend.” (via MTV)
