Things We Saw Today: Samurai Jack Fan Tribute Shows Us What We Could Have Had

YouTube user “avemagnadude” created this stunning Samurai Jack fan animation. It pays great tribute to Genndy Tartakovsky’s unique style without completely mimicking it. We miss you, Samurai Jack. (via Comic Book Resources)

  • Sanrio fans, prepare yourselves: there’s a Hello Kitty movie in the works. Aiming for a 2019 release, the project has $160 million-$240 million earmarked for its production, Nerdist reports. Personally speaking? I can’t wait.
  • Have you heard about how Google’s artificial neural network actually has the ability to day dream? Well, now you have. You also have the ability to make trippy neural network day dreams of your own with Google’s DeepDream, which was released to the public last week. Prepare yourselves for creepy.

Photographer Dylan O’Donnell captured a stunning shot of the moon earlier last wee–wait. What’s… that in the picture? Is that the International Space Station photobombing the moon? OH, ISS. You so silly. (via BoingBoing)

  • Speaking of the ISS, it finally got its resupply after about three months of waiting. You’ll remember that the SpaceX rocket that exploded was one of a few missions intended to deliver new supplies to the astronauts. No pressure, though, as the crew still had supplies to last them for a while. You know, just in case another rocket exploded or something. (via Gizmodo)
  • People seem to still be all about emotions and dinosaurs because Jurassic World and Inside Out continued their reign over the box office this weekend. Terminator: Genisys pulled in $28.7 million domestically ($44 million internationally), which is good enough for third, despite its rough handling by critics. Okay. We’re still feeling some food nappage from this past 4th of July feast. How’re y’all feeling? See anything cool today?
