Things We Saw Today: All The Mandalorian, All the Time
Star Wars Celebration wrapped up today, but not before giving us some more information regarding the upcoming live-action Star Wars television show, The Mandalorian. Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, and executive producer Dave Filoni sat down to dish out some details on what has until now been a highly secretive project set to premiere in November of this year. I’m sure we’ll be diving into this in greater detail this week, but here are some of the fun things we learned today:
We got some character names and descriptions. Pascal describes the Mandalorian as “a mysterious lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. Some might say he has questionable moral character, which is in line with some of our best westerns, some good samurai. All the good stuff. And he’s a badass!.”
Carano is Kara Dune, “an ex-rebel shock trooper,” who fought in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. “I’m a bit of a loner–which isn’t a far stretch,” she says, “and I’m having a bit of trouble reintegrating myself into society.”
Weathers plays Grief, “a guy who is running this group of bounty hunters. He’s kind of the head of this guild of bounty hunters.”
Here’s a look at those characters:

Let’s see, what else? The show uses some old-school Star Wars techniques and the bounty hunter’s ship–named the Razorcrest–is being shot using practical models. Also, the 501st Legion Stormtrooper cosplay group will appear in the film, although they didn’t know that when they showed up to the shoot.

Fans who attended in person got to see some behind-the-scenes footage and a teaser trailer, but they blocked it out of the livestream, so we have to rely on the excited tweets of those who were in the room where it happened.
The footage we just saw, that wasn’t on the livestream, was 90% behind the scenes stuff over b-roll and 10% a wordless scene where the Mando walks into a space bar. Looks amazeballs. #TheMandalorian

Wowowooeowwowo They just showed a #TheMANDALORIAN featurette. It takes place 5 years after Return Of Jedi. Dewbacks, new planets, new aliens. It was UN-REAL. This is made for the lifers. I lost my mind, I want this show today. #TheMANDALORIAN #StarWarsCelebration2019

Standing ovation! We just watched several minutes of footage, this is a huge production, tons of Easter Eggs. Kowakian monkey lizards, gonks, 4-Lom, IG-88 mowing people down, and freakin @billburr is in this show! This is going to be INCREDIBLE. #StarWars #TheMandalorian

I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a TV show than #TheMandalorian. It looks like it’s exploring the weird, grimy, crime-ridden corners of Star Wars that I adore so much. Villainous, depraved gangsters and drunk puppet monsters smuggling illegal spices. Fuck yes. pic.twitter.com/3ww24RK7B8

- Daniel Craig apparently has very good taste, as he reportedly requested Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) be brought in to punch up the next James Bond movie. (via The Guardian)
