Things We Saw Today: The Simpsons’ “Steamed Hams,” But With Jeff Goldblum
The “Steamed Hams” clip from the Simpsons’ wonderful vignette episode, “22 Short Films About Springfield” is absolutely one of the most delightful things to ever air on television. It’s also the subject of a meme that in recent years has taken over much of the internet. “Steamed Hams but…” has led to some truly talented “shitposting.” (Mashable has a great timeline of the meme’s development.) But I think we have to agree that the time to shut the gag down has come because it can’t possibly get any better than this.
While doing press for the next Jurassic World movie, Jeff Goldblum talked with GameSpot. But since no one really cares about another Jurassic World movie, they used their time with him for much more important matters: asking him to read Skinner’s part of the “Steamed Hams” sketch. It’s absolutely perfect, and it’s made even better by the fact that Goldblum had somehow never seen the bit before.
- Did you all watch NBC’s live Jesus Christ Superstar last night? I thought it was phenomenal, and I loved pretty much everything about it, not least of which being Chrissy Teigen’s tweets. Especially when she was defending her uber-talented husband against Bill O’Reilly. (via Hello Giggles)
- I normally hate April Fool’s Day, especially on the internet, but the usually very serious news magazine Foreign Policy wrote up a reaction to T’Challa’s U.N. speech and what it means for the future of Wakanda and the world and it’s beautiful. (via Foreign Policy)
- South African anti-apartheid activist Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has died at the age of 81. (via NPR)
- Teachers all over the country are walking out in protest of budget cuts and working conditions. Today, thousands of educators across Oklahoma are protesting. (via Jezebel)
