‘Thor: Love and Thunder’: Where is [Spoiler?] Explained
***SPOILER ALERT: This post discusses the first 15 minutes of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.***
The wait is finally over, as audiences can visit their local theaters and see Thor: Love and Thunder. The fourth chapter in the Thor saga features plenty of new and familiar faces, and picks up where the events of Avengers: Endgame left off. Endgame saw Thor naming Valkyrie the king of New Asgard, and taking off into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor and the GOTG traversing the galaxy and fighting bad guys on distant planets, while Thor gets a workout montage that brings his dad bod back to god bod.
The first fight sees Thor joining Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff, Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), alongside Sean Gunn as ravager Kraglin. But there’s one Guardian missing from the group: Gamora (Zoe Saldaña).
So where is Gamora? Fans will remember that Gamora died in Avengers: Infinity War on Vormir, after Thanos sacrificed her for the Soul Stone. But when the Avengers travel through time to regain the Infinity Stones in Endgame, an alternate 2014 Gamora joins a 2014 Thanos in the present timeline to fight the Avengers. Present day Nebula convinces the Gamora variant to betray Thanos and join the Avengers, which she does. The Gamora variant encounters Star-Lord, but has no memory of him (since they hadn’t met yet). After the battle, Gamora disappears.
As of the Endgame finale, 2014 Gamora is off in space on her own, which is why she isn’t with Thor and the Guardians. But Gamora will return in December’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. And while we don’t yet know the plot of the special, we can presume it will have to do with Gamora re-joining the GOTG and (possibly) falling back in love with Peter Quill. A Gamora-Guardians reunion would definitely have some major warm and fuzzy holiday vibes befitting a special. Gamora will also be back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which hits theaters in May 2023.
