Ti West’s ‘X’ Prequel ‘Pearl’: Release Date, Trailer, Plot & More
She just wants to be famous, alright?
This year we got the perfectly raunchy slasher, X (2022). A Ti West special that’s a tremendous homage to ‘70s horror and the slasher subgenre. The unapologetic sexiness of the pornstars and then the latent sexual desire that Lorraine (Jenna Ortega) finds within herself is *chef’s kiss.* But the icing on the cake is the way Pearl (Mia Goth) unleashes her own jealousy and resentment of Maxine (Mia Goth). And hats off to Brittany Snow, who plays the enticing, sexually evolved Bobby-Lynne.
X (2022) was so special that Pearl (2022) was shot back-to-back with X (2022). Yes folks, we’re getting a prequel soon. Something that doesn’t happen as often because original horror movies don’t get the same amount of attention as long-running franchises tend to. But we’re in a new era for horror, meaning we’re hopefully embracing the old and the new all the same.
What’s the plot and when is ‘Pearl’ being released?
Official plot from A24:
“Trapped on her family’s isolated farm, Pearl must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother.”
As far as release dates go, it’s set to come out on September 16th. Meaning, the wait isn’t all that long! Pearl’s origin story seems like a wild one too.
Confirmed cast
Mia Goth as Pearl
David Corenswet as Howard
Tandi Wright
Matthew Sunderland
Emma Jenkins-Purro

Tidbits
In March, Ti West said that he is working on a third film in the series and it’ll be set after the events of X (2022). And it’ll explore another subgenre of horror! It shows just how far original horror can stretch and become something exciting.
