Okay, but Did You See Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph Be the Best Presenters at the Oscars, Tho?
The 90th Academy Awards was an evening with lots of really powerful political statements and inspiring, life-affirming speeches. But when Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph took to the stage to present the awards for Best Documentary Short (Heaven is a Traffic Jam on the 405) and Best Live-Action Short (The Silent Child) they managed to turn their social justice commentary into the most hilarious moment of the evening. Check it out above!
Tiffany Haddish has proven herself to be God’s gift to comedy these days, and she is 2017’s breakout star for a reason. Her boisterous energy was perfectly matched by Maya Rudolph’s grounded and mature comic stylings, and they played off each other beautifully as they reassured the audience that they shouldn’t worry. That, just because there were two black women presenting awards right now, the Oscars were in no danger of becoming “too black.” That, in fact, there were plenty of white people backstage.
But one of the best moments was when Rudolph commended Haddish for peeing off a zip-line in Girls Trip, while Haddish commended Rudolph for the time she “took a dookie in the street” in Bridesmaids. All this, of course, was before Haddish told Meryl Streep that she wants Streep to be her mother.
