Rumor: People Behind the Golden Globes Really, Really Want Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to Host Again
Cautiously Optimistic
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey killed it at least year’s Golden Globes, so it’s no surprise they’ve reportedly been asked back for a second go. But will they say yes?
At this point it’s not looking promising, but hey, weirder things have happened. (See: The guy behind Family Guy hosting the Oscars. Seth MacFarlane was a weird choice, right?) Via Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva:
“I hear Fey and Poehler originally agreed to host this year’s ceremony as a one-time thing with no obligation to come back. But, given their success, it’s no surprise that NBC and Golden Globes producer Dick Clark Prods are asking them to return. I hear there are no active conversations between the network and the funny ladies who have received an informal invitation versus a formal offer as NBC and DCP are looking to gauge their interest.”
Fey and Poehler are both busy with their various shows—Fey has sold two new sitcoms, and Poehler has Parks and Recreation—and Fey has equivocally stated that she has no interest in hosting the Oscars. But, like Andreeva points out, the Globes aren’t as much of a time commitment as their older, more prestigious sibling, because the host doesn’t do as much. Plus you can drink at the Globes. So that’s a plus.
NBC and DCP reportedly want to have a deal in place by the end of November, so we have a good three months to do whatever we need to do to make Fey and Poehler want to host again. Bake them Golden Globe-shaped cakes. Beg on social media. Sacrifice a goat or two. Whatever works.
