The end of 30 Rock may have left a cheesy-blaster shaped hole in fans’ hearts, but there’s hope. Soon you can experience more of the genius of Tina Fey on television, sort of, with a new television show for NBC. Fey will be executive producing a new show written and produced by another funny lady, former 30 Rock writer Colleen McGuinness. The show sounds like it will carry on the spirit of popular sitcoms, which hopefully includes a touch of the madcap dysfunction of Liz Lemon’s workplace.

Along with Fey, the show will be executive produced by 30 Rock co-showrunner Robert Carlock. Both will be working under Universal Television. According to Deadline, McGuinness’s show is:

a character-driven workplace comedy where a young woman in search of reconnecting with her father finds a new home and family on Fire Island.

The Fire Island most commonly mentioned on television is not actually engulfed in flames, but part of Long Island, New York. The island is a beachside community, and is obviously seasonal given the location, meaning that we could see more than just workplace antics on sunny beaches. It has larger cities and quieter beachside towns, so there’s little to suggest where exactly the young woman in question will be working. However, Fire Island is often referenced in television shows, including 30 Rock, as a popular vacation spot for LGBTQ individuals in the area, indicating that LGBTQ communities and characters are quite likely to appear on the show.  According to Deadline, the show doesn’t just contain Fey’s sitcom influence, but is also “said to be in the vein of Cheers.” Whether or not this means the protagonist will be working at a bar, the Cheers comparison means we’re sure to see a community of interesting characters working alongside her.

There’s no news yet on casting or more specific plot details, but with Tina Fey, and her Little Stanger production company, involved, fans of 30 Rock should keep an eye out. For now, we can look forward to a new female-led, female-created sitcom on a major network, even if there’s been no news yet of if, or when, we might see a pilot. As Liz Lemon would say, “I want to go to there”.
