Another Thing Vibrators Can Do: Fix Your Teeth

How many of you geeks out there went through the adolescent torture of braces? Yeah, that’s what I thought. I had mine for five years, from the end of elementary school to mid-high school. This new device, approved by the FDA for use in the making of terrible, wonderful jokes… and also for use by orthodontic patients everywhere would probably not have helped much in my specific instance. I have my formerly-impacted canine teeth to thank for that, including the one that, after all that hullabaloo, still came in backwards.

But yes. This is a mouth vibrator that will honest to god make your teeth straighter faster. This is me showing remarkable restraint.

AcceleDent, a name that also shows remarkable restraint, is not a replacement for braces but rather a supplement to it that may shorten the amount of time that braces are worn considerably. In other words, a vibrate a day may eventually keep the orthodontist away. For the 20 minutes a day of proscribed use, the patient’s teeth are agitated, increasing the force appled by the braces themselves, and “cellular activity that remodels bone” is accelerated. The device might be available in the US as early as January.
