Let’s Watch This Absurdist Tribute to Touchdown Celebrations by Key & Peele, with Stephen Colbert
After commentating on the Super Bowl all evening with live improvisations, Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key headed over to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to revisit one of their classic sketches: the tale of McCringleberry (played by Key), a football player who just can’t resist doing over-the-top celebratory dances after every touchdown, to the chagrin of the referee (played by Peele). It’s worth watching the original version of this sketch first, since it’s hilarious, but the follow-up version (embedded above) stands on its own.
In the second version of the sketch, Colbert joins the comedic duo in this new twist on the original joke. Since the stakes have to be heightened this time, the end-zone dances get way, way sillier and much more bizarre, with all involved getting plenty of opportunities to show off their physical comedy and miming skills. Yes, miming.
