Dido Elizabeth Belle was born in 1761, the daughter of a member of the British aristocracy and a black African woman we know only by her name. Gugu Mbatha-Raw (geeks might know her as Tish Jones, Martha Jones’ older sister) plays the titular role in this film based on Dido’s life.
