Mike Pence’s New D.C. Neighbors Raise the Trolling Bar With Rainbow Flags
When the trolls take the White House, we troll back.

You may have heard that people were donating to Planned Parenthood in Vice President-Elect Mike Pence’s name to spite him for attacking the organization, but being an opponent of women’s reproductive healthcare isn’t the only reason Pence deserves our ridicule. He’s also been an opponent of marriage equality, discrimination protections for the LGBTQIA community, and a promoter of “conversion therapy.” His new Washington, D.C. neighbors aren’t just going to let that stand.
Pence is renting a house in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of D.C., and residents of the area are showing him just how they feel by putting up rainbow flags on their homes. It’s at once a hilarious way to remind Pence of how unacceptable his—and most of his party’s—views are and a heartwarming show of support. Residents say that more flags are on the way:

However good it feels to take this as a dig at Pence, though, those doing it hope it can yield a positive effect. One resident, Ilse Heintzen, told a local ABC affiliate, “[The flag is] a respectful message showing, in my case, my disagreement with some of his thinking. […] I have no idea what [the Vice-President Elect] will think about, but I hope he will change his mind.”
We do, too, but every step along the way of building this new administration has made us feel less than confident that the majority of voters, as Hillary Clinton’s popular vote lead continues to grow, will have their opinions—or rights—respected.
