Baker Who Recreated Obama Cake for Trump Will Donate Proceeds to LGBT Charity

Recommended Videos

This weekend was a circus of ridiculousness, lies, and a whole lot of people coming together, worldwide, to show that Donald Trump does not represent us or our values. On of the more ridiculous stories was Donald Trump’s cake at the Salute to Our Armed Services Ball, which was intentionally made to look exactly like the one from President Obama’s Commander-in-Chief Ball, but it has a happy ending: the baker is planning to donate the profits to support LGBT rights.

As stated in the Buttercream Bakeshop Instagram post above, the profits will go to the Human Rights Campaign, which was all about this weekend’s Women’s March and isn’t too fond of Donald Trump. That’s a pretty great way to take the opportunity to make the cake and use it to troll the man and his administration—more than he already had himself by requesting a blatant copy of one of President Obama’s cakes.

Duff Goldman, of Ace of Cakes and Charm City Cakes, made the original, and he was initially caught off guard by the copycat effort, but in the end, he didn’t seem too bothered by the homage. Tiffany MacIsaac, owner of the Buttercream Bakeshop, was caught by surprise a bit herself, according to the Washington Post, because the cake was mostly an inedible showpiece, and she didn’t expect it to attract so much attention.

She’s probably not aware, then, of the “plagiarism” allegations of meme-level proportion that have coalesced around Trump, since his team apparently specifically told her to just outright copy the previous cake, which would clearly be caught instantly by the Internet.
