The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent premiered in theaters on April 22, 2022, and has been delighting viewers with its meta-comedy premise. The film features Nicholas Cage starring as…Nicholas Cage. Of course, Cage does kind of play Cage in most of his movies anyway, and the film pokes fun at that signature style of Cage films we’ve come to expect from the actor. It’s all in a good-natured way though—with Cage in on the joke.

In the movie, Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself who has reached a plateau in his career. Self-absorbed, tormented by his younger, more successful self in his head, and struggling to maintain his personal relationships, Cage decides to accept an offer to appear at a super fan’s birthday party for one million dollars. In the process, Cage builds up quite a friendship with the birthday boy, Javi Gutierrez (Pedro Pascal). However, when the CIA approaches him with their suspicion that Javi is an arms dealer and kidnapper, Cage uses his friendship with Javi to investigate him.

The film is a true creative masterpiece. It parodies Cage and his career in a way that is subtle, but hilarious, and it is packed with Cage references. Additionally, fans are going wild over Cage and Pascal’s bromance. The two share an incredible chemistry in the film and Pascal boasts a show-stealing performance. When the action-packed adventure comes to an end, you might be left hoping there is more. Perhaps, a little treat after the credits?

Is there a post-credit scene?

Unfortunately, there is no need to stay through the credits though, as The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent doesn’t have a post-credit scene. Post-credit scenes are becoming more frequent and have been popularized by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Pixar. Studios like Lionsgate, however, don’t frequently utilize post-credits scenes. Still, we had kind of hoped there would be one to hint at a sequel for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Oh well, the film does have just about everything else you could possibly want—Cage, Pascal, bromance, humor, action, etc. So, we’ll let the lack of a post-credits scene slide…this time.
