Oscar nominated actress Viola Davis is the latest to be cast in the big screen adaptation of the sci-fi novel Ender’s Game but she’s also picked up another famous book adaptation role as well.
Davis previously tackled sci-fi with the film Solaris in 2002, in Ender’s Game she’ll play a “military psychologist” responsible for the emotional welfare of the young recruits.
Summit Entertainment is bringing us the adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s best-selling novel and I must say, it really looks as if they are putting their best face forward for the project. Gavin Hood is writing and directing the film and Sir Ben Kingsley was recently confirmed for the role of Mazer Rackham joining an incredible cast of Harrison Ford, Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld and of course Asa Butterfield as Ender.
Davis was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Doubt back in 2009 and will be at the Academy Awards again this year (going for Best Actress in a Leading Role) thanks to her time as Aibileen Clark in The Help.
It’s obvious the actress is in high demand. She’ll also be joinging the cast of Alcon Entertainment’s adaptation of the Kami Carcia and Margaret Stohl penned supernatural thriller Beautiful Creatures.
“A hauntingly intense coming of age story set in the South, Beautiful Creatures is about two star-crossed teenage lovers, Ethan, a local boy, and a mysterious new girl, Lena, who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town,” according to a press release on Deadline. Davis will take on the role of Amma, a seer who looks after Ethan and his father. Writer/director Richard LaGravenese is adapting the first installment of the three-book series.
