What Is ‘Grogu and the Dust Bunnies’? The Rumored Grogu Short Film, Explained
A rumor is swirling that Grogu will get his own short film, Grogu and the Dust Bunnies, on Disney+. The rumor isn’t particularly surprising given the fanbase that Grogu has steadily built up since his debut on The Mandalorian. Initially referred to as The Child, the mysterious youngling from the same species as Yoda first appeared in The Mandalorian in 2019. The Child was supposed to be given to bounty hunter Din Djarin’s (Pedro Pascal) mysterious Client. However, upon meeting the green big-eared, baby-faced creature, The Mandalorian chose to protect him instead of giving him up for a bounty.
Thus began the heartwarming adventures of The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda. Soon, viewers learned that his real name was Grogu. Some still use the affectionate label Baby Yoda, though. While Grogu’s major role in the Star Wars franchise is just looking cute, his storyline has also been progressing. We have learned that Grogu is a force-sensitive who was trained at the Jedi Temple in Coruscant and lived through Order 66. Not much else is known about his past, only that the Jedi are his people.
However, when Grogu must choose between training with the Jedi and traveling with The Mandalorian, he ultimately chooses to stay with The Mandalorian. His decision was made in The Book of Boba Fett which teased further adventures with Grogu and The Mandalorian. This made viewers content as it confirmed we’ll most likely be seeing Grogu in The Mandalorian season 3. However, new rumors suggest there’s another project we’ll see him in, too.
What is Grogu and the Dust Bunnies?
Rumors arose on November 4, 2022, that Grogu was getting his own original Disney+ short film titled Grogu and the Dust Bunnies. The news was leaked when the Disney+ Italy Twitter page made a post about its upcoming releases. The original Tweet has been deleted but not before it was snapshotted by Redditors. This Tweet listed several confirmed upcoming shows/films and their release dates, such as Limitless with Chris Hemsworth and The Santa Clause series, which are premiering on November 16, 2022.
However, the post also contained the title, Star Wars Zen – Grogu and the Dust Bunnies. This title hasn’t been officially announced yet by Disney. However, Disney+ Italy marked it as a “Corto originale,” which translates to “original short.” As a result, fans assume that Grogu and the Dust Bunnies is an upcoming surprise short film from Disney+.
When Does the Grogu Short Come Out on Disney+?
According to Disney+ Italy, the Grogu short is slated to premiere on November 12, 2022. It wasn’t lost on fans that the date is the 3rd anniversary of the premiere of The Mandalorian. Hence, even though it hasn’t been officially confirmed, the Grogu and the Dust Bunnies short doesn’t seem wholly improbable. At the same time, if the release date really is the 12th, it seems odd Disney would wait so long to announce it.
Fortunately, the 12th isn’t far away and viewers won’t have to wait too long to see if Grogu and the Dust Bunnies was a mistake or if it is an official Star Wars special short film.
