Joss Whedon Announces That There’s No Post-Credits Scene After Age of Ultron

Skeptical geeks are skeptical.

The auteur doth protest too much, methinks. Joss Whedon recently told Entertainment Weekly that there isn’t going to be a post-credits bonus scene at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron a la the now-classic shawarma scene at the end of The Avengers. Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, clarified that there will be an epilogue-like tag shortly after the credits start, but apparently, Whedon wants to make sure that we don’t sit there through the whole credits expecting something that isn’t there:

There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out. We want people to know so they don’t sit there for 10 minutes and then go: ‘Son of a bitch! I’ll kill them!’

Something about “not having something worthy” of that end spot blah-blah “wanting it to be organic” blah-blah. Sure. That’s exactly what someone who is planning something would want us to think.

Look, I’m sure Whedon is telling the truth…but why would he even bring it up at all? Doesn’t he know that geeks wait out damn near all movie credits now, because Marvel movies pretty much started a trend that other movies have taken on? Is he that concerned with us “wasting our time” watching all of the credits (and shouldn’t he want us to watch all of the credits, since films take a lot of people to make them, and we should give them their due rather than rushing out of the theater anyway)?

The fact that he brought it up – the aforementioned “protesting too much” – makes it sound like the idea may still be in play. After all, let’s not forget that the shawarma scene was filmed after The Avengers premiered and added to later screenings.

All I’m saying is – Avengers: Age of Ultron premieres May 1st. Whedon, you’ve still got three weeks or so to get it together. We believe in you.
