Here Is a Theory as to When ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Could Take Place
It's senior year, folks.
Now that Euphoria has wrapped up its second season with “All My Life My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name,” a finale that sparked mixed feelings throughout the fandom of the gem of HBO’s crown, everyone’s eyes are already turning to season 3—which has been confirmed and is definitely happening, even though the timelines for its release are still pretty foggy.
But when would season 3 take place? I’m ready to share with you my personal theory—but before I do, you should keep in mind I generally hate time skips with a passion and would like to never see them in my favourite pieces of media ever again. But I will do my best and corroborate my opinions with facts rather than just my personal preference, so here we go.
Long story short, I believe season 3 of Euphoria will pick up right when season 2 left off. Alright, maybe not immediately after, but I don’t picture it being more than a summer break after Lexi’s wonderfully chaotic Our Life staging. We will likely see everyone starting another year at Euphoria High (yes, I know it’s technically called East Highland, but Tik Tok is too powerful for me to fight its influence), with most characters going into their senior years—since Rue, Jules, Maddy, Kat and Lexie are all juniors. Nate and Cassie, however, are probably already seniors, which means that we could see what life has in store for them and their Incredibly Toxic relationship after they graduate.
It’s not too farfetched to think that just a few months would pass between season 2 and season 3—the same thing happened between season 1 and season 2. The season 1 finale takes place at the Euphoria High (no I will not let this name go) winter dance, and the two special episodes dedicated to Rue and Jules happen over Christmas. And of course, season 2 starts at the already legendary New Year’s Eve party where Nate gets the living daylights beaten out of him—and I’m not one to endorse violence, but boy is Nate a character that does not inspire sympathy.
It’s unclear whether there will be new special episodes to mirror the ones dedicated to Rue and Jules—but if I had it my way, they would be focusing on Cassie and Maddy over the course of summer break, with season 3 picking up the “main” story at the start of the new school year.
