Where to Watch ‘Our Flag Means Death’

Enjoy the show with a nice cup of tea (don't forget to add seven sugars and a spot of milk).

If you are curious about Our Flag Means Death, you came to the right place. We, at The Mary Sue, are collectively obsessed with the show. I mean the show has everything—pirates, comedy, and heart. All while slaying toxic masculinity and putting an end to queer-baiting. Plus, anything with Taika Waititi or Rhys Darby is worth a watch.

The show seems to have taken over the internet. So if you haven’t watched it you may have questions. One question might be, is this show really real? Yes, it is real and not a Tumblr fever dream as one may think. Another question might be, where can I watch it?

How To Watch

Our Flag Means Death is only available through streaming on HBO Max. A subscription is required, but they offer free trial periods. Ten, roughly half-hour episodes make up season one. Someone can easily binge-watch it (and re-watch) on a weekend. On the one hand, I am sad there are still people who haven’t watched the show, but I am also a little jealous of those who get to go through the journey for the first time, and won’t get quite as emotional in the first episode as I do now.

The Plot

Loosely based on actual historical events, Our Flag Means Death follows the story of infamous pirate Edward “Blackbeard” Teach (played by Taika Waititi in a leather crop top) and gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet (played by Rhys Darby in luxurious linens). We see how the two meet and all the romantic comedy gold that follows. Stede Bonnet’s ragtag crew consists of loveable, misfit pirates that round out the cast.

Please, go forth and enjoy. Maybe if more people (and not just me for the fifth time) watch the show, they will renew it for a second season! After you set sail on this amazing adventure, let us know how much you enjoyed the show!
